Weekending

My quality time tank is overflowing this rainy Monday.  I had a whole weekend with my sweet husband (mostly) to myself.  Some weekends all I need is some quality time and a good nap to consider it successful.

Friday afternoon, I went to my Dad's after work.  Jackson and I had dinner and then went to the grocery.  We're so edgy... grocery shopping on a Friday night. haha.

Saturday morning, we took Luna to the vet to get her shots.  We took her in, they weighed her and took her back to run her tests. The vet brought her back and said she had some news. "Luna's a boy!!" We were mortified. haha. So, now we have Feeny. :)

We went to my aunt's for lunch because my Grandmother was in town from Branson. On the way home, we stopped at T-mobile to get Jackson his upgrade.  He went with the Iphone 6 plus.  IT IS GIGANTIC.  I'm torn between the Galaxy 6 or the iPhone 6.  We went home and cleaned a bit to prepare for Sunday and turned in early.

Sunday, we got up, went to church, and had Jackson's parents over for lunch and so they could meet Feeny.

Sunday included the best Sunday nap and church, followed by a fire. It's been so long since we could do a fire because it's been so doggone hot.

Happy four day week to all!

Summer Checklist!

Our Spring was busy to say the least. I'd be lying if I said it didn't seem like an absolute blur. We got most of the big things crossed off. but not all of them.

Camp the Crap out of Spring
Spring Cleaning!
Visit the Nashville Farmers' Market
Spend Time Outside
Dye Easter Eggs
Take More Pictures

4/6 isn't bad, right? It's a little over half.  Hopefully summer will allow for more time to check things off:

Swim swim swim
Last year we took advantage of the pool and loved it.  We haven't gotten five seconds to go down there yet this year, but I'm hoping lots of pool time is in our future.

Find a place to move in October
We are still looking for the next Little Hiney Home with no luck.  I'm hoping to have this one checked off by the first of August.

Declutter
I mean, honestly that's just a way of saying "Summer Cleaning". It needs to be done every season for us... not just spring.

Date more
Finances, lack of time, and just being all around tired from working all week has cut our dating down to a big fat nothing.  Since our weekend trip to Holiday World we have not had a weekend to ourselves.  Which is exhausting and draining for my little quality-time self.

Be Healthier
Blanket statement? yes. Necessary? also yes. After being an adult and going to the doctor, they found I have high cholesterol and need to be on a low-carb diet. Kill me. So I'm making this into a family thing.  It wouldn't kill either of us to eat better, snack less, and exercise more.

The Trouble with Blogging

As you can see, I've been mostly absent the whole month of June.
I'm having a hard time sitting down and just writing. It's hard enough when there's nothing special to write about, but making time to sit and write is just plain hard.

I'm also having a hard time with the fact that I don't feel like it's going anywhere... Tracy wrote a great post this week about writing for yourself. I started this blog as a way to document our journey as newlyweds, a new family, and as adults on our own (together) for the first time. It turned into making some great friends, sharing life, and building up one another. Until reading Tracy's post, I had forgotten that it doesn't have to go anywhere... it's mine and that's what matters.

Thanks for sticking around... all 22 of you... for reading and keeping up with our lives, even when there's less than nothing going on.

Life Lately

I feel like I'm still writing more of these "catch up" posts than sharing life in real-time.  I do apologize for that.  I am keeping up with all of you, though!! Promise.

In case you missed it, we grew our family by four claws  paws. Luna has become a spoiled mess. We have arms full of scratches, a baby gate in the kitchen, and a new found mandate for keeping things off of the floor. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

We are back on our four 10 hour days summer schedule for work and I have Mondays off again.  By Friday afternoon, I'm dragging.

On a much lower note, we lost one of my best friends last Friday.  Frank was seventeen years old, but that doesn't make it any easier.  He was well loved.

We looked at a house we loved down the street from my parents.  Inspections showed it had mold, so that was a big ole waste of time. They ended up finding a sucker a week later and selling it for almost double what it was worth. So we are looking at apartments for October with no luck.  It's almost completely impossible to find anything in Nashville on a small-ish budget. And then you get sick because you realize you're paying twice what a mortgage would be and have nothing to show for it. Adulting is hard.

Earlier this week I took a field trip... literally a trip into the field to hang with some of our clients for the day.  We took them to the park to walk and came upon this deer... and proceeded to feed it saltine crackers.

My sister is still gallivanting around London having a grand time!

I've been a grown up and gotten myself a primary care doctor. Mostly because I was tired of paying $75 copays for urgent care and walk in clinics. Nothing new, except for the whole fainting when they take my blood nonsense. That was fun... not.

Jackson's brother is home and out of the Navy for good!

Other than that, there's work, church, home, One Tree Hill, sleep, and that's all. Your lives have been much more interesting lately. haha. :)

Our First Week With Luna

Remember when I posted about trying to get Jackson to let us keep that kitten?
well, he said yes, and we went to get the little 8-week ball of fluff on Sunday.

How did she get her name, you ask? We may or may not be Harry Potter dorks and named her after the one and only Luna Lovegood.

Sunday night was miserable.  She cried and screamed and wailed all night long.  It broke my heart because I knew we had taken her from everything she knew and she missed her mama and brothers.
She came home, wedged herself under the bathroom counter, and would not stop hissing.
I finally got her to sleep which was good... until Jackson got home from church, and she was back to hissing again.

Monday was hard, too.  I came home from work to check on her during lunch and she was baracaded under the bar cart. She wanted nothing to do with me.

She is now a completely different cat who cuddles and plays and doesn't cry. She loves her fish wand (that we taped to the table so she can play by herself), an old empty Kroger hand-basket, playing in her litter, and climbing her tower. We'll have a fat house cat in no time.

I am completely in awe of the patience I have learned from her, and the love I've found for something so small.

Best Camp Ever

Hi Friends!! So sorry I left with no warning.  I spent this week at my favorite place on earth - church camp!! I always look forward to this week! It's great to get away with no cell phone service and just be... Enjoy the photo dump!
