Weekend Recap

I honestly woke up this morning and jumped right on the struggle bus. 

I don't understand why an hour one way (usually only forward) throws me so out of whack. 

I was fine getting up for church yesterday, but work today?

no thanks!

 

Our weekend was a lovely one, though.

 

Friday was a long day.  We took my car to the shop Thursday because there is a leak in the EVAP system somewhere. After a million tests, they found that my gas cap was leaky.... REALLY!? We picked it up, I was driving it home, and the check engine light came right back on.  I'm SO upset.  I stress over small tiny things, so this is killing me.

However, I did have time to update our chalkboard wall to something Irish-y (and pinspired) for St. Patrick's Day.

 

Saturday night, we went to see some of our littles in their school play, Beauty and the Beast.

They were Mrs. Potts and the Beast; they were AWESOME.

 

Sunday was a great, lazy day.  We had church, Bible study, and I went to the grocery.  Love the mister, but it took me half the time at the grocery without him.  I was gifted this awesome service called e-Meals. You pick a meal plan and it makes a meal and shopping list for the week for you! The one I picked is coordinated with what Kroger has on sale that week. How awesome!?

High Five for Friday!!

This week has been really hit or miss.  Some parts have been perfect and others have been BLEHHHH. 

1. 

I had Monday off work and went in late on Tuesday because of the ice craziness that hit Nashville. I'm not going to lie, I didn't mind.  I got a million chores done.  I bleached the tub, cleaned the toilet, cleaned the sink, swiffered the bathroom.  I vacuumed the living room, organized the cords, dusted, and cleared the clutter.  In the kitchen, I cleaned every appliance, cleaned out the fridge, and swiffered the hardwoods there. I did not, however, make it to the DMV to get my name changed on my license.

My free shoes from JustFab came in the mail!! They're so comfy and cute!!

Monday, while off work, I also monogrammed everything I could get my hands on.  Specifically, the sleeve of a sweater inspired by the following pin.  I also found my monogram magically appear on two pullovers, a tote bag, and dish towels.  Magic, right!?!

I was the first one to hit my best friend's wedding registry!! I even got her spice rack on sale!! ;) Shh, don't tell her! I was also able to score a gift for a baby shower at church on sale, and this adorable set of onesies! I love love love Target days like this!

Oh, and last but not least, look what the amazing Jana Tolman did to our blog!! How adorable is this design??! I seriously keep coming back to look at it. I love how wonderful she was to work with and how she truly brought my vision to life!! I had a vision and she took it and ran with it and made it beautiful!! Seriously, work with her! She's great! 

Our Wedding: Our First Look

I debated for months about having a first look.  I wanted to keep it a surprise, but I wanted to have our special moment.  I wanted to be able to focus on each other for two seconds because I knew the whole day would be a blur.  I am so glad I did.  We had Jackson turn his back to the back door of the church.  I came out and he turned around. Some of my favorite pictures are from our first look. :)

High Five for Friday

Some weeks really, truly seem like they're never going to end. This one was truly one of the longest weeks of my life.

No, I don't say that every week. Only most of them.

 High Five for Friday

 

1.

I got to spend some quality time with sweet tea, warm weather, and the sweet smell of Hubs' cigars on our balcony doing some writing and praying. The weather didn't last long, but it was great while it lasted. 

 

2.

I applied for a promotion at work.  I'm an HR assistant now, and the job is for an HR Generalist position.  Hubs says if I get the job we can go house looking soon! :) I've got my eye on a sweet 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, sunroom and finished basement, 4 car garage home with a big yard for future littles to play.

We got our wedding pictures back and I am so in love! I can't wait to go through a whole series of wedding posts!! For now, enjoy these:

Jana Tolman is working on a design for Little Hiney Home! I am so excited for you guys to see it!! She has been wonderful and has brought my vision to life!!

 Yay for Friday date nights!! Hubs and I have a gift card date tonight! Those are my favorite because it's like someone has gifted us a date!! We have gift cards to Cracker Barrell and the movies!! What's the best movie you've seen lately? We can't decide what to go see!

I'm the kind of girl who....

• Loves the Lord with all of her heart.
• Can't pick a restaurant when we decide to go out to eat.
• Probably should have been born in the forties to grow up in the fifties and sixties.
• would pick Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons over today's nonsense music anyday
• Overthinks the simple things
• Would give you the shirt off of my back, but don't burn me because I'll never do it again.
• Loves to be in front of the camera as much as behind it.
• Planned my wedding from age six to twenty-two.
• Loves Fall weather (high 50's to 70. No higher than 70)
• Loves zombie movies and shows, blood, and gore as much as she loves a good chick-flick.
• Can't shop the real racks until I've hit the sale or clearance one's first.  
• can't justify paying over $12 for a shirt, $25 for pants, and $30 for a dress
• Has to plan it all. If it's not in my planner, it doesn't get done.
• Has never wanted anything more than to be a Godly wife and mom. One of those is finally checked off. Patience, baby crazies!
• Can recognize a face and remember a name from over ten years ago.
• Sleeps until Noon on Saturday, and cusses isn't happy at 6am on Monday.



Open the Dishwasher

Yesterday, upon arriving home, I did my usual scan the apartment to see what is laying in the floor from the man-child's morning escapades. 

Usually, I give him one or two honey-do's to get done before he goes to work. Load or unload the dishwasher, run the laundry, you get the idea.  I gave him two simple tasks: First, take out the trash including a bag of old pillows... second, unload and reload the dishwasher to run the entire sink load of dishes from the weekend.

After my quick apartment scan, I noticed something. 

Trash was empty. Sink was full. 

50% is failing in Metro Nashville Schools.  I'm just saying.

I started slamming things around the kitchen, getting angry because of the disgusting nonsense I was going to have to deal with because he picked which of the two to do and he chose poorly. I was livid. Words about how hard I work to keep his laundry done and supper cooked flowed from my mouth. 

I flung the dishwasher door open to unload the dishes that I was sure he had left in there. 

Empty.

Heart, meet feet.

I was so embarrassed and ashamed of my negative attitude toward my husband for not doing everything I asked. I didn't even think that he may have been exhausted and had to pick between the two chores because he was running behind.  I didn't even think about the fact that he did something rather than leaving both for me to do. I didn't even think that he may have wanted to save me a trip up the hill to the dumpster. 

I'm learning, slowly but surely, what it means to be a wife.  No, this won't be the last time I get frustrated because he forgets to or accidentally (because he wouldn't dare do it intentionally) neglects to do something I asked.  But how forgiving is he of me when I fall short? How forgiving is our Heavenly Father when we all fall short? 

Unconditional Love. That's the goal. 

Three weeks and two days into this whole married life thing,  and some days are better than others.  We're growing and learning what it means to love unconditionally every day.

Weekend Recap

Our weekend was simply wonderful! 

Friday night we were ten times our age and turned in early. By early I mean couldn't keep my eyes open most of the night. 

Saturday, I woke up with a splitting headache... the kind that makes your head too heavy to lift from your pillow.  We had a church clean-up day, but I decided to sit this one out.  Jackson went, though, and helped replace white boards, hang pictures, etc. in the church.  

I got this picture from him at 2:00 or so saying I missed out on snuggles with Ruby Jane. 

So I threw clothes on and went to the church.  We ended up having a bonfire and roasting weenies that night with friends.  It was awesome. 

Sunday, hubs and I had decided that since we got back a kazillion dollars from last year's taxes that we would spend a day just kind of splurging responsibly.

He had been eyeing this humidor for a long long while. Once we got into the cigar store, he was a kid in a candy store.  I can't blame him. Chrissy in JCPenney and Kohls is Jackson in the Cigar Club. The deal was whatever he spent at the Cigar Club, I was allowed to spend on clothes and shoes or whatever. 

Let's just say he spent enough for me to add this baby to our home and still have some left to spend.

We also went to Men's Warehouse on Sunday because Jackson got a free suit for getting our wedding tuxes there. It was his first time getting measured for a tailored suit.  It was so much fun. 

Marriage, Week Three

Well, as of today, I have been married for three whole weeks! 

Time flies when you're having fun! 

I'd like to share some simple things I have learned about love in my short three weeks of marriage.  

I used to think love was this never-ending butterflies-in-your-stomach kind of feeling.  

Marriage, to me, used to be simply waking up next to my husband every day for forever. 

It's so much more than that, now. 

I've learned love is not getting mad at your husband when he accidentally breaks your beautifully french tipped toenail.  It is budgeting your checks, covering all of your bills, and being so excited to have money left over.  It is cooking a meal for your husband even when you've had a long day at work. Love is being cranky and irritable and him wrapping you in his arms and promising you it will all be okay.  Love is when he is watching the Olympics and turns it over to American Idol because he knows you are bored. 

The butterflies are different, too.  They're the "headed home" text messages, the "have a good day" kisses, and they even come from the fact that he took out the garbage without having to be asked. 

Marriage is so different from everything I ever dreamed it would be, but it is so much more amazing.  

I'm sure I will read this in ten years, fifteen years, forty years, and laugh about this post.

But for now, I'm enjoying everything I'm learning about love, marriage, and my sweet husband. 

High Five for Friday

Well, I can't say I have welcomed a Friday as much as this one in a long time. I'm so excited for the first High Five for Friday with Lauren on Little Hiney Home!

Even thought I had Monday off of work, I feel like I have been running non-stop and I'm so ready for Saturday so I can sleep in.   

1. 

Monday, I got to sleep in and have late morning snuggles with my sweet husband.  He doesn't have to go to work until 10am, so he always gets to sleep in and run late in the mornings.  

2.

I went to get my hair cut on Monday and ended up donating eleven inches to locks of love.  I hated it at first, but it's growing on me. 

3.

I scored some great deals at Kohls this week! 

My favorite was this Wallet! It has so much space!

 

4.

I'm loving doing wifely things like cooking and cleaning, but one of my favorites so far has been dropping off the dry cleaning.  I feel awesome to own clothes that need dry cleaning, but I feel so official dropping them off with his clothes.

5. 

Since we don't have another holiday until St. Patrick's Day, I needed to change our chalkboard wall from Valentines to an everyday thing.  I felt this was fitting.
